Deepika was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her family moved to Bangalore, India, when she was eleven months old. Her father, Prakash Padukone, is a retired badminton player of international repute, and her mother is a travel agent. Padukone also has a younger sister, Anisha. Deepika attended Sophia High School in Bangalore, and completed her pre-university studies at Mount Carmel College Bangalore. While in high school she played badminton at the state level.However, she was not keen on pursuing a career as a badminton player.

Deepika went to Sophia high School in Bangalore, and did her Pre University from the Mount Carmel College in Bangalore. She was a badminton player of state level during her high school days. She got enrolled at Indira Gandhi National Open University for a Bachelor Degree Program (Sociology).
She started modeling during her college days and soon carved a niche for herself in a very little time. She endorsed brands like Liril, Dabur Lal Powder, Close-up toothpaste and Limca. A flurry of brand promotion followed afterwards.
Deepika Padukone made her acting debut in the Kannada films named Aishwarya. She made her first bollywood appearance in super hit movie Om Shanti Om where she was starred against Shah Rukh Khan. The film earned her Filmfare Best Debut Award. Later success of other films established her as an actress.
